Security codes on Registration Certificate Part I, Part II & license plate seals

This guide is aimed at everyone who wants to complete an i-Kfz procedure online in Berlin-Staaken – including the specifics and responsibilities for Berlin-Staaken.

1. Security code on Registration Certificate Part I (Fahrzeugschein)
On the back of your Fahrzeugschein (issued from 2015 onwards), there is a silver scratch-off field or peel-off foil covering a 7-character alphanumeric code and a 2D DataMatrix code.
2. Security codes on the license plate seals (Stempelplaketten)
For online deregistration or a license plate change, uncover the 3-character codes under the state seals on both plates:
- Peel off the colored state seal or gently scratch off the center field using a coin.
- Do not use a sharp knife or screwdriver so the code beneath remains legible.
3. Security code on Registration Certificate Part II (Fahrzeugbrief)
For new registration, transfer of ownership, or re-registration, scratch off the silver field on the bottom right of the front side of Part II (issued from 2018 onwards).

- 1Check issue date. Ensure your Part I was issued from 2015 onwards (Part II from 2018 onwards).
- 2Use a coin. Gently scratch off the silver coating with a coin or peel off the protective film.
- 3Enter or scan code. Type the code into the online form or scan the DataMatrix barcode with your smartphone.
